Carina

Download

Carina is free and open source. The downloads are on the project’s releases page on GitHub.

Product in development. There is no stable release (1.0) yet: the interface and file formats may change between versions. Feel free to use it to plan and observe, but don’t count on stability from one version to the next.

Windows: ready-to-run executable

This is the simplest way and the one we recommend for observing. The executable has everything inside: no need to install Python or download catalogs, and it works offline.

  1. On the releases page, download the Carina-<version>-windows-x64.zip file from the most recent published version.
  2. Extract the whole Carina folder wherever you like, for example C:ProgramsCarina.
  3. Open the folder and run Carina.exe.

The program installs nothing on your system. To uninstall, just delete the folder.

Windows warning on first run: because the executable is not digitally signed, SmartScreen may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click More info and then Run anyway.

From the source code

To follow development or modify the program, run Carina straight from the code, which requires Python 3.12 or newer. Instructions are in the repository. Linux and macOS should work this way, but have not been systematically tested.
